Catsan smart packs......BRILLIANT!!

Hi all, just thought I would share my experience of this fantastic product. My parents have 3 cats and tried it, and were very impressed,so I tried it too, and I have to say I am mega impressed too. Not very MSE I know but worth every penny. My boy seems to wee an awful lot, I mean quantity not frequency, and this led to me having to change the litter every few days to avoid nasty smells. Since trying smartpacks, I can honestly go 2 weeks with no litter change, I just scoop the solids every other day. No smells at all. And the tray is in the lounge! Also, due to his excessive wee, despite using ultra absorbant catsan litter, there was always a small amount of urine in the bottom of the tray, now, I can lift out the used smartpack and the tray is bone dry! Makes the oh so lovely job of emptying the tray so much nicer! They are essentially a super absorbant cat nappy that sits in the bottom of the tray. They come ready charged with catsan litter but I tend to top it up a little, as he's a big puss.As I said, at £7 for a pack of 2,not MSE, but £3.50 a week for no smells at all and a more pleasurable cleanup it's worth it!

CC limits £26000

Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

ooo, that's good to know- I've often wondered about them.

In the spirit of MSE, can I suggest Zooplus as a supplier ? They're £5.99 per 2-pack or £15.99 for a 3x2-pack (so, £2.50 each). 5% on TCB too

  • Looks good but the cost is horrendous ..... 2 packs in a tray & replace once a week?

    That's £260 / year!

Have a look at this stuff - sounds very similar. Works out about the same to buy 2 big bags

It lasts for ages you need a lot when filling the tray initially but only need to top up sparingly & rarely need to do a full change if you keep it clean and it has a lovely smell http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter/biokats/fine_grain/137226

Make it really deep in the tray and no liquid gets through to the bottom - easy to clean as the wee goes into pebbles ... love it!

Sometimes cheapest doesn't equal best option, sounds to me like the convenience here for you is best option.

We struggle to move/tip the 20l bags so always buy 10l, much easier for us though more expensive.

(Lily's xxxl box takes 10l of litter easily)

I don't replace every week by any stretch, if I did yes the cost would be horrendous!

I use the catsan smart packs and honestly they are brilliant.

My cat used to use the cat litter a lot and it was a horrid job keeping it clean. This is so much more convenient, and cleaner. It is not as expensive as it sounds because you really don't have to change it so often as it is much more efficient.

To be honest nowadays my cat never uses the cat little tray as he has a cat flap and prefers to go outside no matter what the weather. But it is there for emergencies, like when I have to keep him in when he goes to the vet or on bonfire night, or on the odd occasion when he hasn't been well. Mine has been down for months (only used twice for a wee when he was shut in and caught short) and has no smell whatsoever. I am thinking of changing it only because it has been down a long time and probably would benefit from a fresh one, but he used it on bonfire night, and trust me he is the fussiest cat ever, so there isn't much wrong with it, even now!

How long is 'ages' please Rising? This litter looks good and I'm tempted (for the cats!), but just need to know roughly. I have four cats and a kitten (although big cat always goes outside), and just need to work out a quick cost comparison. Thanks!

I need very big trays as big cat is very long and can't get in/turn around in "normal" sized ones, so it does take a lot more to initially fill the trays but there is very little wastage so it balances out over the time you use the 2 bags.

You probably have more trays than me but if they're smaller you won't need as much to fill them - I've put in the tray sizes below - HTH

It was costing me around £2.20 / week when it was split over 2 Bella Maxi trays (sizes in cm) - L66 x W50 x H46 (incl hood)50992.jpg
    but I've recently switched to 1 enormous tray - 71 x 56 x 25 (no hood but lipped)

It did take a full bag  to fill the new tray to a deep enough level but as there is very little waste hoping the costs should balance out again (and certainly should having 1 tray rather than 2)!

Not got to the end of the 2nd bag yet so can't give an accurate cost for this as yet unfortunately - hope that helps a little but sorry if totally useless :o

Thanks Rising, think I may need to place an order on payday - I usually buy mine weekly, so it's a lot (in comparison) in one go, but the "lovely smell" is certainly appealing :D

Yup, it will be a bit of a shock spending that much in 1 go!

I used to get the wood pellets from PAH which had gone up to £18 for 2 x 30L bags ..... and the 2 bags weren't lasting a full month  - that's why I originally started looking for something else!:)

Hope it works for you - I'd maybe try it in one of your trays at first and then you'll be able to see if they all use it (I did this and found the 2nd tray with the old stuff in wasn't getting used at all - and one of the reasons I felt I could go down to the one tray).

The smell is lovely and I also find that as everything is now buried (which it wasn't before), there's generally no horrible smells at all!:)
