How to complain about British Gas servicing?

  • It was a radial circuit that had all those things on it, which left me with a lot of things not working...

And yes, they knew from day one I have a small child, and told me I'm a priority. <hollow laugh>

Once the specialist part from Weymouth for the consumer box had been ordered by a BG engineer, and was on his van, I felt they would do it

and yes, with hindsight, I'd have gone elsewhere - but if every morning and then every afternoon they lie to you again, and say 'we're on our way', then you tend to stick with what you've got....

IN THE END: their agent , Wessex Electrical, cut through all the cr^p and fixed it - over a week later.

I did keep detailed notes on the nearly 20 calls I personally made to them to try and get things moving. Names, and times. In particular I noted the Team Leaders who made me heartfelt promises (lies) then refused to take my calls afterwards.

I have asked them for compensation for my calls, electrical heaters, service washes, lost days for no-shows - comes to nearly £400! And for stress and misery to self and son. In total, nearly £1300.

They have offered me £150. Which I refused. They have no idea how angry I am.

Thank you very much for posts and advice. Having someone on your side, even a name in a forum, makes a real difference at times like these. :T

  • If your complaint has not been resolved to your satisfaction please email phil.bentley@britishgas.co.uk. His department is the only one that tries to help. I am in a similar situation. 3 weeks without heating & hot water. Supposed to be fixed today but once again British Gas have cocked up with the parts they sent. Homecare is a joke!

I think you mean a ring main circuit, not a radial circuit.
But all you (or they) had to do was run a £5 extension cable from another circuit to the appliances you required-how did you run up a £400 bill in a week?
And how do you work out £900 on top for stress?
You might get another £50 with negotiation, but expecting £1400 is not realistic.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
