Red line on screen

Anyone got any idea why a red vertical line should appear on the screen, the comp. is about 3 year old, and working normally.
The line is in same place all the time and is constantly there, even after shut down and restart.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Assuming this is a desktop PC rather than a laptop, check to ensure the lead between PC and monitor is fully inserted and secure. Otherwise it's likely the monitor has developed a fault.
How do I add a signature?
  • or it could be the cable or maybe graphics card?
  • Thanks for your quick replies, should have said its a laptop.
I thought it might be the monitor. but hope its not.

You can check whether it's the LCD panel or graphics card/chip by connecting an external monitor. If the problem persists then the fault lies with the graphics card/chip or other internal component. If the problem isn't present on an external monitor then I'd suspect either the LCD panel itself or one of the cables between base and panel.

Does the red line remain if you move the lid about between the fully open and closed positions?

Pretty sure you'll find it's a physical screen fault if it is a single, consistent vertical line, not that expensive a fix

Peel back your baby's eyelid to find no nationality or religious identity mark there. Peer at your baby's eyes for them to reflect back just people-throw away your flags and religious symbols...
