Advice sought re LCD digi camera screens

Options
I have an SLR type compact with bith electronic viewfinder and lcs screen and generally use the elctronci finder. Recently I persused OH to go digital as well and bought a compact Pentax M39 that has only the lcd screen. I do not know if it is only that camera but no matter how the brightness is adjusted it is bally useless in bright sunlight. You just cannot see what you are focussing on.

Are all lcd screens the same, and, if they are not, have Mse-ers any helpful recommendations? Is there a wor a eound to the problem.

At the moment I am thinkking of rejecting the camera as not fit for pupose, because of the useless lcd.

This is a problem with most LCD screens, although I have seen reviews where they mention that the LCD is still visible in bright sunlight (although I can't remember which camera). Take a look at www.dpreview.com or www.steves-digicams.com for reviews.
You can buy flip-up hoods which you can attach to the camera, but these are usually designed for SLRs and would reduce the 'compactness' of your compact camera.

I can't quite find your model. Is it Optio M30 (perhaps there is M39 now - but I can't find it). Anyhow a solution for you IMHO is this

They are available in UK, and point & shoots are universal fittings depending on LCD screen size.

Try RK Photographic on Tel: 01707 643953 for assistance or look here

Not only will this solve your problem, it will also protect that LCD too. Normally available in black or silver. However will the camera now fit in the case and do you want to spend £20.00 is up to you.

I thought I had seen universal ones somewhere. Thanks to Lyrrad's prompt, here's one on ebay, a bit cheaper (at the moment):

Make sure of your LCD screen size though. They are universal based around that criteria. Available 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.5 & 3.0 inch LCD's

I have an old Casio "point and shoot" which does have a small screen and a viewfinder as well. Recently got a Samsung with screen only. No idea what I am taking half of the time, even when it is turned to it's brightest setting.
Friend has a small Sony which has a very good screen but still not good enough in strong sunlight in my opinion
We all evolve - get on with it

That's exactly the troble with my wife's Pentax. You can't help wonder if the manufactuers actually use their products, whre the majority of joe and Jill Soaps do!
