With yahoo mail a lot of the spam ends up in the spam folder however deleting the whole content of the spam folder can result in the loss of a mail you wanted, which results in a need to look before deleting. To reduce the content you can add the addresses of repeat offenders to the blocked addresses list but this can take a lot of time.
The quickest method I have found so far is to open yahoo mail in two tabs. In the first open your blocked addresses list and in the second open your spam folder then click right on an offending email: select "filter emails like this" and the offenders address appears in a box. Copy this address then switch across to the other yahoo mail tab and enter it in the blocked addresses list.
Hope this helps some of you it did me once I worked it out.
However there must be a quicker way. Ideally yahoo should add a button next to my spam folder that if clicked would put the addresses of all the emails in my spam folder into my blocked addresses list now that would upset a lot of spammers.
I am hopeful that this thread may produce some more useful ideas on this subject or even better someone cleverer than me might write a program or firefox add on to do what I suggest.

Don't bother with the "blocked senders" list. Only a small amount of spam emails use the same email address more than once, at least over a longer period.
  • I'm interested to know how a Yahoo email address I use only for friends and family and never for online purchases etc is now starting to get spam. I've had it for two years now without a problem, so I guess that was quite a run. I've had one or two spam emails every other day plus odd online messenger requests.

I have another one for registering online for purchases and stuff (this forum included) that gets bombarded daily, but I sort of expect that and delete delete delete.

Then one of your friends got an infected PC. That's how most spam gets sent these days...

Looking before deleting can be made much easier by sorting by 'FROM' first, so that emails from the same source (be that spam or not) are grouped together.

If only Gmail would let you sort in a similar way.....
