Looks like they mark it as a GIFT - but once it comes oyu have no way of sorting it!Gifts sent from outside the EU
If you're receiving a gift from outside the EU, then you have to pay:- Excise Duty on any alcohol or tobacco products
- Customs Duty and import VAT is payable if the value of the gift exceeds £36

I think they put a low value on it, and mark as gift as I say the bag I had was £14 and I didn't pay anything0

I wish I didn't look I have ordered some shoes and a top  Didn't go for a kip bag lol ... yet!0

Not sure if its the same but form USA I had to pay over £12 recently for item son had ordered - that included £8 P.O. handling - postman said any item over £25 gets this VAT duty charged - but I wouldn't swear to it. This is as well as paying postage when ordering the item.
I thought it was goods over £15 ( used to be £18) and they include the cost of postage if it goes over the £15. Also, the exchange rate is only updated approx monthly so I try not to go too close to the £15 with the exchange rate as a few years ago I ordered something that took a few weeks to arrive and came the following calendar month when the exchange rate had changed slightly so took me over the £18 and I had to pay Royal Mail £6.07 - of which £6 was their fee (at that time, at least 5 years ago).0 -
Hm that does look quite clear Scaredy Cat but what son had recently ordered was under £40? So am confused.
I'm confused too! It looks to me like the allowance is lower if the item is marked as a gift - I always thought it was the other way around?!
Looking at the guidelines this purchase is very clearly NOT a gift, but I guess we have no control over what they declare when they post it.0 -

I had a parcel from oz a while ago as a gift unfortunately the value on the customs label was £40, they told me in the sorting office that if it had been valued under £40 as a gift it would have been fine0 -
I gave in last night and placed an order
:o
Cost $25.56 and shows on my credit card as £14.90 (I think)... hopefully I'll be ok regarding duty. I LOVE the print on the bag I've ordered so of course now my excitement is tempered by me being anxious about the quality!!!! Really hope it's as nice as it looks!0 -
