RentSmart - How can you cancel?

Hello,

Much help.

Words fail me ...

My over 18 year old son has signed on Sunday for a 24 month LEASE agreement with the above company which means he will pay OVER double the cost of the goods.

I phoned RentSmart and they tell me the Agreement is not cancellable!!

What grounds can we get out of this Agreement, they are saying no cooling off period ... any ideas to help?

I am absolutely mad about this!

Thanks

  • I just found this on here ..

So I will be dragging back to the store with my size 9's up his backside for being so stupid.

I too got conned into the Infinity deal. I got home and started reading through the paperwork only then to find out I was leasing the iPad! I did a quick search on net and found this post! So glad I did as I didn't open my or should I say their shiny nee iPad until I could contact them about getting out the contract.

I rang RentSmart the next day and advised them that I had been mis-sold the product and was given the impression by Currys that the contract was exactly like a mobile phone contract. Advisor at RentSmart said that as I'd only had the contract a matter of hours, I could go back to the store and tey could cancel the contract there.

So, back to Currys I go with the unopened iPad and explained what RentSmart had said and within a blink of an eye, the Infinity contract was void.

Very quick process and smooth process. Currys said that although Infinity contract says no cooling off period, there is actually a 2 week cooling off period that can be done in store but they opt not to advise of this.

I cannot thank this forum enough for all its help and advice.

    Glad you got is sorted.

Good lesson for him to read all terms and conditions before signing anything, even if he needs to take the contract home to read it.

Bet he was a bit embarrassed eh, it might make him think twice in future.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

The paperwork you sign does have Rent in big embolden letters at the top of every page.

While it may not of been explicitly clear, some mobile phone providers work in the same way that you don't own the device and you either trade for a new contract later or return the phone, Same idea on the Infinity, Tablets change, what better if you are upgrading every two years than to pay a monthly fee to use it and get a new one every two years (Also, I believe the Infinity covers theft, accidental damage, software support and backup all in the monthly price paid, which lasts for two years).

Anyway, for the future readers of the thread, once the infinity deal ends in two years, you can either return the laptop/tablet and that's the end of it, return and take out a new one at 25% off the price of a new system, Buy the device at current market value which is usually less than 50-40% of what you paid for it.

Your son needs to learn money management more than anything else, the value of a pound and all that, too many kids nowerdays have access to easy credit without proper education through schools or peers.

But, you got it sorted and it seems that Currys/PcWorld cancelled the contract without making you fight it, and for all we know he was told in store that it's a lease agreement and when confronted by a angry mother (Hell hath no fury like a mothers anger) he denied, denied, denied.

Isn't RentSmart for businesses or am I thinking of something else ?

Rentsmart, Infinity both do the same thing and provided by the same people but Rentsmart is the business one provided through the business centre, whereas the Infinity is for consumer purchases.
  • Just to save anybody the time, don't try going back to a different branch .... they don't want to know....I suppose you could argue, but I was not in the mood.

I confirmed with him it was described as a mobile phone contract ... which it is not.
