Oat So Simple pots - just add boiling water

I just can't cook good porridge. Please don't bother telling me how. I just can't. Maybe if I could concentrate on it but I can't - I end up going to see to the kids and it all goes horribly wrong.
I really like the Oat So Simple pots. You just add boiling water - fool proof and tasty. And I prefer the texture to the porridge I make. But they are blasted expensive.
So how come their porridge can be made just with boiling water? The ingredients are basically rolled oats, sugar and milk powder but I did this at home and it didn't cook the oats.
Do they use some ultra technical heavily steamed oats, or is there a way I can recreate this?

Did you use normal oats?
You would need to use something like readybrek which says "instant hot oat cereal"0 -
I cook mine in the microwave. A small glass of oats in a bowl...any will do....then double the quantity of water. Bung in the microwave for 2 minutes....et voila cooked porridge. No messy pans, wooden spoon or burned pan bottoms.
The bowl is freebie from Morrisons when I bought Quaker oats :j but I usually use Morrisons cheap oats normallyGC - Oct £36.17/£31

Thanks Fruball.
I do have readybrek so will try that, but the Oat So Simple is much more oaty/lumpy than the readybrek powder. I've checked all the shops in my area and none sell instant oats - closest is quick cook, but they still need to go in the microwave.0 -
Gracie, I swear mine is undercooked one second and exploding all over the microwave the next. I managed OK in my last microwave, but can't get the hang of it in my new (lower powered!) microwave.0

I have been known to leave porridge in cold water over night so they plump up, then i bring it to the boil over the hob, it's quicker this way imo and it means the kids can have porridge before schoolDEC GC £463.67/£450

I do this too but leave it to soak in milk, in the fridge, overnight and then straight into the microwave in the morning0 -
if you cook it in the microwave, you need a MUCH larger bowl than you'd think possible (I use m/wave saucepans from Poundstretchers or a pint pyrex jug) Yes it does boil up, it's supposed to. Even my teenage boys can manage porridge like this (although they also love the Oat So Simple pots too)Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

1 2 3 method for me.
One measure of oats (in a large pyrex witha lid), 2 measure of liquid, 3 mins high in microwave.
I have also done a scoop of oats in a food flask and twice volume boiling water. Lid on and after about 20 mins? it's fine. I have water porridge though but you could add some milk powder/evap.0 -
Mine always boils over in the micro too, you do need a very large bowl to avoid the mess... But we tend to use readybrek type cereals here, as only DD eats them really.Bossymoo

I use a normal drinking big mug and that makes enough porridge for me and my other half. One cup of oats in the pan and then using the mug add 2 cups of milk (or 1 water and 1 milk). Hob on high and stir all the time so doesn't catch on the bottom of the pan. then add sugar or whatever you have in itStarting my DMP Journey.0
