Credit card situation - slightly complex? (or not) - any ideas?

Hi, the situation is this:
1. I have:
- Barclaycard for every day purchases, paid off each month
- M&S card - 0% for 15 months, which built up to £8k, and is now coming to end of term in Jan. So that is to be closed.
2. I would like:
New Card (1) - to transfer the £8k balance to a long term 0% (and take the hit of the 2.5% fee) paying the minimum per month
New Card (2) - a 0% purchases for as long as possible.
Slight complication....... I applied for (and got) a First Direct card as it had 20+ months 0% for the balance transfer - only to discover in the small print that it did not accept transfers from M&S cards
So I closed that.
Now - I am concerned that if I make another application for a credit card, it might be refused as I am 'over-carded'.
Is that the case? What would you advise in this situation?
Would I have a chance of getting both new cards?
Many thanks.

Also be aware that John lewis & HSBC will have the same issue. As all part of the same group.
Always better to ask if you can transfer from X card to the new card provider before taking out a new card.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
