my answer would be to apologize to the bank for your mistake and advise them of the money transfer that your friend did that you though had cleared on your account which is why the transactions authorized in your view.
If this was a one off and you do not have a shady past and you put the money back today to bring yourself back in the black they might wave charges.
If you go wadding in blaming them they will more likely take the hard line against you and slap you with the charges.
good luck0 -
You can't claim the money you overspent back off the bank, but they can claim the money you overspent back off you.
Next time, keep a check on what you are spending. Going overdrawn is nobody's fault except yours. Don't blame the bank."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Having worked in Banking in the past you see it all the time, but unfortunatley the banks will see it as your error for spending money you didn't have
sorry for being harsh but thats the way it is.
If I was you I'd go in apologise, explain the situation fully saying that a transfer made into your acc wasn't showing & that as it wasn't declined you assumed all was ok (point out you did try checking but the online wasn't working) clear whats owed & you may be lucky they may waive some of the chgs - but do not go in all guns blazing it won't help your cause, they're more likely to listen to your views if your all nice!!
Fingers crossed for you.0 -

These do not sound like purchases. Are they some sort of loan repayment?0 -
I'm ever so sorry OP, but keeping a track of what goes through your bank account is basic, basic, basic. My partner works in retail banking and constantly has people coming in complaining about charges for going overdrawn when they "thought" they were OK. Even if the online banking system was down, there's phone banking or even going to a cashpoint to get a mini statement or just a balance - if you go to the bank with a "it's your fault" approach, you'll be laughed out the building - as with other posters comments, go to the bank, apologise, make good the money you owe - you may still face charges, but that's the price of not paying attention!0
