Barclays has allowed me to go overdrawn, with no overdraft!!

I was doing £40 transactions sunday morning, thinking i had the funds available, and i made numerous transactions, however usually it would tell me the payment was declined if i didnt have the funds there (as i have a basic account without overdraft facility).

The next day i looked at my account and it said overdrawn by £162!! How is this possible, surely this is the banks error for letting me go over?

Am i entitled to claim this back??

Not sure what you mean by claim back, the banks paid it not you so far. Do you mean claim back off the people you paid?

  • No, claim it back from the bank as they shouldnt have let the payments go through, they should have been declined

Many retailers have floor limits which just go through automatically.
Good luck paying all the increased charges and try checking how much you have before spending in the future.
  • I couldnt check my balance as barclays banking was under maintenance at the time and i thought i had the money in there

If you were doing transactions for £40, surely you would know how much money you had in the account, to do 4 transactions you should have guessed that you would not have this amount in your account, were you expecting you wages to be paid in so would cover the costs, if you did not have £160 in your account, why did you continue to make transactions. The fault lies with you and not the bank you should know how much money you have before trying to spend it. The bank are claiming what they rightly see you as you being irresponsible with your account and have charged you for not using it properly.

Very harsh I know but you have to take responsibility here.

It appears (from other threads) the OP is also a bankrupt.
