When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Morning guys :wave: hope everyone had a lovely weekend :D Gosh I can't wait for xmas and having some time off of work, I just seem so tired all of the time! Anyway...

Things to do today:

* call guy about dropping off 2nd hand kitchen
* nip to toolstation and get downlights lightbulbs and drop them here for electrician
* pick up external light as well
* all food from stores
* stick to diet
* transfer cash from bank accounts for cc2 payment into stoozing account to earn 15 days interest on it ;)
* check onepoll
* stay at work and do job application before sewing group rather than driving home and back again
* "[STRIKE]bought" a free book for my kindle[/STRIKE]
* decided to wait on another book for £1.48 - I have wanted it for ages so will get it (the takeaway secret) but am trying to go through the week not spending anything other than for house renovations
* take elec meter reading & send in to supplier
* book MOT
* go to car parts shop for bolts for bumper

that's all I can think of! Have a great day x

  • Good morning DNMS and those who follow!

    I have been off the boards for a bit as my life has become a giant mess, financially and otherwise. Have actually never felt so stressed and unable to handle things. Have taken today off as annual leave to try and get things sorted.

    In MSE today -

    - follow up on case around last weeks burglary (both our motorcycles taken, which are our only form of transport)
    - take photos of issues in new house (we've moved last weekend) to send to landlords to ensure no problems when we leave, they seem very reasonable so far
    - make chicken soup for lunch using carcass from thanksgiving last week, OH is sick and Im feeling it coming on so perfect timing
    - once OH is back at lunch and returns the bike, I'll take it for a quick repair then head into town to prospect for a new one
    - meal plan for week and do a veg shop
    - buy dog food
    - call up new guard for an interview
    - try to relax a bit before return to work tomorrow
    - maybe gym if the cold relents a bit

    Hugs to all, please send any you having going spare this way!
    Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000

    Taking my frugal life on the road!
  • Good moring all

    DNMS - thanks for starting us off. I hope you had a lovely birthday and didn't eat too much giant jaffa cake

    Orange Fairy - many congrats on the permanant position. It's lovely that you are so appreciated at work

    Nottobadyet - I'm sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. Try to look after yourself. A day off to get things sorted will do you the world of good. Have a creepy threesome hug :grouphug:

    From the weekend thread - NewlyFrugal hope the dog is ok. LPP - is the swelling going down? If not there could be a bit of tooth still in so do go back if it gets worse.

    I had a good day on Sat. Did most of the housework, didn't spend any money and spent some quality time with m-i-l. Then realised that the central heating is playing up (lucky there is an annual service tomorrow!).

    Unfortunately got bit of an anxiety attack on Sunday so didn't do as well. Got half way though making some chutney then had to go out so must finish tonight! On the plus side I started plnning out the patchwork quilt that I have been talking about making for 2 years :o

    So today:

    Check online banking (all appears normal)

    Text b-i-l my bank details so he can transfer OH's Christmas money

    Finish and pot chutney

    Free dinner tonight at our local. They are doing it up and have a new menu and all the regulars are invited down to try it for free

    Gaze lovingly at cleared cc

    Charge phone in work

    B/L from stores

    Not sure what else...

    Have a great day all x

  • Morning all :)Thanks for starting us of DNMS. a big hug for NOTTOBADYET. sorry, can't give you a dodgy group hug as smiles are limited on the tablet I'm on :o hope things are better after a day on the case :D

    My list for today:

    Check banking
    Update online shop for tomorrow
    Pop out and get an onion for tonight's tea, don't spend on anything else.
    Try and exchange some underwear
    Meals from stores(bar onion). Left over bacon, lentil and tomato soup for lunch I made yesterday. Someone else was making it last week on here and I was inspired it was lovely and used up leftovers :T
    See if I can make any of the insides of the new wardrobes so I can start shifting stuff
    Make some HM bread and yogurt

    Think that's about all, have a great day everyone. :)

    Morning everyone!

    Today will be a LSD, need a bit of bread, will head to MrT's for it so I can get points added to my clubcard.
    Might pop into the pound shop and buy another metal tin for my coins. The two I have at home I've opened with a tin opener :o Might buy two, one for coppers and one for silver...
    Just transferred £30 odds from TCB, have got it in amazon vouchers so its adding on another 5% :j Think it worked out at £33 something, going to buy my nephew a PS3 game with it for christmas. So another 'free' christmas present :j
    Need to look on Debenhams website for a present for SIL and BIL. Have a £30 voucher I got from surveys, will try and spend that on them, another 2 hopefully free presents!
    Dinner from stores, remembered to take out some sausages from the freezer this morning.
    Lunch is spicy lentil soup, made last night, yummy!
    Check banking, check if my £9 paypal is in the bank yet, pay it to CC if it is
    Do swagbucks, onepoll, check competitions board

    Have a good day everyone!
    Can't think of anything smart to put here...
  • Hi Lucy and welcome! Hope you don't go crazy with the babies on your own!

    Zepsgirl & jonno can I have your soup recipes also?

    Thanks!

    Recipe is enough for 6-8 decent sized bowls -

    2 carrots diced
    2 onions diced
    2 cloves garlic diced
    teaspoon ground cumin
    teaspoon coriander seeds or dried (i use dried cos I don't have seeds)
    Add all above to a pot with some oil, gently fry
    Add in 400-500g red lentils (rinse under cold tap thoroughly first)
    Add in squeeze of tomato puree
    Add in a diced chilli (depending on taste, you can add more)
    Add in approx 2litres of hot water and 2 stock cubes
    Season well
    Bring to the boil then simmer for about 40 mins with the lid almost closed.

    And that's it :T
