Spreadsheet link help

Hi, I wonder if anyone could help please? I use a spreadsheet and up until this week I could copy and paste a web link onto the spreadsheet and the cell would go grey with the link contained inside that cell and then I could click on that grey link to take me to that web page.

Now when I do the same copy and paste, the link doesn't go grey and can't be clicked on, and also makes the cell several lines deep.how do I get it to do proper links again does anyone know please?

  • What software are you using for the spreadsheet? Have you updated/changed it recently?

It sounds like you have some conditional formatting or a script running normally to turn the background of the cell grey. So it might be a difficult one to answer.
  • It's libre office but if I open a windows excel sheet I get the same problem on a brand new spreadsheet. Not updated or changed anything, it has just done it itself? Thanks for replying.
  • Perhaps the URL is being pasted in as plain text. Try type a URL manually with the "http://" part as well. Try typing something like http://www.google.co.uk/
  • Try insert > Hyperlink then paste

  • Thankyou to both of you for your help/suggestions, both ways work and have the greyed out links back. Is there anyway i can set it to do this automatically again without having to type it out manually instead of copy and paste as moneypounds suggestion, or click on insert etc as per debitcardmayhems suggestion?

Copy the link location in your browser, insert > hyperlink and then paste into target field.
