Can Freeview PVR record satelite channels?

I know the difference between Freeview & Freesat, but if I got a Freeview recorder could it record the satelite channels also? (via the AV)

My old VCR can record satelite, I haven't been able to manage recording Freeview on it (that may be down to me or the way the aerial is set up, cables being relayed between 2 tv's.

I'm looking at buying this one: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/panasonic-dmr-hw220ebk-freeview-hd-recorder-1tb-14134711-pdt.html :)

It's very unlikely it will record from the AV ... most recorders are now set up to record the actual Freeview signal rather than the picture and sound. VCRs are diffent - they are designed do what you want to do.
  • You mention satellite , have you got a sat dish ? you may be better with a Freesat recorder eg a Humax Foxsat HDR. Your old VCR probably doesn't have a Freeview tuner, and Freeview TV's usually don't output via scart.

  • Have got a dish, think on the whole I'd prefer a freeview PVR 'though.
If you moved.. well, most places have an aerial.

Your old VCR doesn't record satellite, it records the AV output from the TV.
A PVR sits between the aerial and the TV.

If you have a sat dish and sat box with an AV SCART out, many of the Panasonic Freeview/HDD/DVD recorders will record via an AV input. You'll have to select channel manually on the sky box though.

I'm sure other makes will do the same, I just like Panasonic - I don't see any indication that the one you linked to has AV inputs though

You're asking for a Freeview box with AV IN. That doesn't exist AFAIK. DVD recorders do, but I don't think it's worth the hassle.
Your VCR. remove any aerial cables from it, it's got an analogue tuner inside it, which is now useless. You should be recording over SCART, and hopefully your Freeview Box has a TV SCART and VCR SCART. Plenty of cheapo ones only have 1 SCART output.
