Leaking Diverter Valve on Biasi Combi Boiler

Hi everyone,
I have developed a leak at the top of the diverter valve just where the actuater connects on my Biasi combi boiler model M96 28SM/c. Different sources/forums suggest that this can be repaired quite easily with a kit costing circa £45 +vat. and that it can occur when debris enters the system. This seems feasable as I have been carrying out plumbing alterationd to the bathroom.
My querie is, do I have to drain down the heating system to examine/fit the repair kit or is it suffice to close the circulating valves and cold water feed and drain only the water that is present in the boiler.
If it is ok to do this, how much water will be present in the boiler to drain off.
Any help would be great as it is getting a bit cold in here now.
Thanks,
Hamer.

yes, isolate cold main and flow / return valves. isolate elec to boiler and open hot tap preferably one which is lower than boiler. you will get between 2 to 6 pints of water from the boiler probably.0
