Can anyone help me to sort out why my pc won't connect to a lot of sites the first time I try.;)
I turn the pc on,(running xp and using a netgear wireless router) but the first attempt to access any site is now met with a wait ,then the message- server not found-connection has timed out. The second attempt is ok and we get connected.
This never used to happen,so what have i done to cause this
Its a pain in the butt.
Any advice will be most welcome!!:D

There are several possible causes that spring to mind...
1. Does the wireless connection icon (bottom-right, near the clock) show that you have established a connection to the router when you hover the mouse over it, before you try to open your browser?
2. Have you changed your wireless encryption method recently (e.g. from WEP to WPA)?
3. Do you have any other programs / processes trying to access the web at the same time? Examples can include automatic updates for a whole range of programs, especially anti virus definition updates.
3. Are you running an 'internet security suite' such as Norton or McAfee? this can spend so long 'protecting' you from allegedly dangerous sites that the web site that you are trying to connect to times out while waiting for a response.
4. Is your DNS setting still correct? Perhaps the DNS servers that you are using are undergoing maintenance / overloaded, so that they cannot respond quickly enough.
5. Are you using a static or DHCP-allocated IP address? If your router has not yet allocated an IP address to your PC, then it will not be able to pass your request to the web server that you are trying to contact.
These are just a few thoughts. As I have no idea of your level of technical knowledge, I have made an assumption that all of the suggestions above make sense to you. Please do not hesitate to ask for clarification if anything above needs further explanation.0
