Insurance want a report form filling, but we can not recollect a collision

Hi
Long story short, few weeks ago, we received a letter from police claiming that we have not stopped after a collision. There was a mistake on their letter. The day did not match the date. on Friday, I was driving, but on the date, my mrs was driving. I filled the form and sent it back stating these facts.
Last week, I received an email from a legal firm acting on my insurance behalf, addressed to me, and asking me to fill a collision report form, that a third party claims that I hit their parked car, and return within 7 days.
Now reading the form, there is nothing on it allows me to state that I was not involved in a collision. Nor it allows to state I was not driving on that area that date. My mrs states she was not involved in a collision.
I am not sure how should I proceed with this.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

You were not in that area but your wife was?
Touched bumpers whilst parking? If the police are involved then it could be serious.
6 points and a large fine. I know because i reported someone for the same thing many years ago.
Initially i thought they would just give me their name and insurance details, But it turned out they took them to court and prosecuted them.
I got a letter from the police after with his name and address and insurance details.
Seemed he failed to inform them of all this and i dropped him into it further.
All for a small scuff on a car that was probably 8 or 10 years old.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi
Thank you for your reply.
My Mrs was in the area. She states she was not involved in a collison, nor hit a parked car.
The form asking for the details of the accident, a sketch, and who to blame etc.. Details If I try to fill up will mean I will have to make it up!
Any body got an experience of something similar?
Many thanksBe nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -

Just write a letter explaining what you say here (that your car was not involved in an accident), and ask them why they think you or your car was involved in the incident.0 -
Write a letter stating the bare facts & no more return it with the form not filled in.
Thats what I would do.........0 -
Check your car very carefully for any unfamiliar scratches or dents, however small.
My wife is certainly capable of touching things without noticing doing it. I can think of 3 incidents without difficulty when she lost a bit of bumper trim, bent a number plate, and grazed a bumper, without apparently noticing a thing.
All on our own drive, no one else involved. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thank you all for your replies.
The legal firm contacted me by email. I like the idea of sending a letter and stating the fact.
Is it reasonable to reply by email rather than sending a letter?

I'm also capable of doing this, especially in something big (tapped my car with one of the minibuses earlier; noone else involved, small dent in my car bumper).
I didn't realise I'd done it until the person driving my car told me I'd hit it

Personally I think email is fine but I would use delivery, read receipts and probably put the emails in a seperate folder so they don't get deleted by accident as this is important legal stuff.
I would check the car thoroughly too as one explanation is that she didn't realise she hit something.0 -
Hi
Thank you for your replies.
The email did not contain my policy number. The email address server is relating to a computer and IT services website.
I am starting to smell something fishy here. I wonder why I have not received anything in the post. Reading through my insurer's website, they seem to imply they will try to clarify what happened, if any, with their customer first. The email I received certainly did not imply this. It was using a language as if the collision was a given fact.
I will contact my insurer and find out more.
