Gadgets/LifeSavers for the commuter
I have had a mixed year commuting - trains - cars - coaches, so I wondered what you found made your life easier. I can then drop hints appropriately or fork out the cash myself as next year is going to be much the same
My list of good things and bad things is
* DAB Radio - I got a PURE model, but it is a little unreliable inside a tin box
* Small high quality umbrella - because it just IS going to be needed
* smartphone (twitter is enormously enjoyable if you are bored on a train - lots of angry commuters out there)
* small backpack - whatever the transport mode for bits and bobs
* coffee mug - never really found one that I trusted or worked - any hints welcomed
Interested to see what works for you

I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

My essentials are:
Car: bottle of water, cereal bars or similar in case I get stuck solid for ages
Public transport: as above plus a book - never get bored when you have a good book to read
There's always a brolly in my handbag. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
I agree most of the comfort comes from a few basics. The commuter trail is not really a place for luxuries - although I suppose an Ipad or similar would be welcomeI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
