Hi
Was wondering if any knowledgeable people out there might be able to help find where I can purchase some single core x0.5mm, single insulated, flexible cable?
Its basically fairy light cable.
I've googled it but the majority of sits relate to commercial quantities, i.e. buy by the kilometer and I want approx 20m. I found one site offering nearly the same wire but that was x0.6mm and I didn't want to mix 'n' match.
Thanks.

Certainly would not be able to get that from a wholesaler for that quantity, a wholesaler could get hold of it but you would have to purchase 100m minimum.
there is http://tbsdirect.mobi/cgi-bin/build/detail/EC02120K_Mtrs_cut_2182Y_0_5mm_Twin_Flex_Cable_White.html
price quoted is per M cut so they should be able to do it for you.
Just realised its single core you are looking for !You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Farnell will almost certainly have it, try

Maplin have this with a 0.5mm² conductor and a 1.6mm outer diameter:

Have you considered buying a length of 2-core or 3-core flex from a DIY shop, and stripping off the outer insulation? 0.5mm² is a common size, but if you're looking for a 0.5mm diameter conductor, that might be more difficult.
This kind of wire is sometimes specified using American Wire Gauage (AWG). Wikipedia has a page which converts AWG values into metric diameters and areas:
