Car crash witness changed her mind about seeing it.

The witness just doesn't want to get involved. Perhaps, on reflection, the witness might believe her evidence wasn't as strong as she said to you at the time.
Often, when the police take statements some time after the event from people who earlier gave their names as witnesses, they will say things like "I heard a crash, so I ran to the window and saw..." Clearly this is of less use in establishing cause and blame than a person who actually saw how both vehicles collided.
I'd be telling your insurers that the witness provided some information to the police. I would contact the police and ask for the incident log reference number (or the accident reference number - unlikely if there was no injury).
But I can't see your insurers being interested in pursuing a witness for a minor damage only RTC when that witness is telling them she didn't see anything.
Do your photographs give any idea of post impact movement? If your vehicle was stationary, and pushed back on impact, there could be photographic evidence of that, eg tyre skid marks on road surface, or final position relative to the debris field.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
Ok, thanks for that sgt pepper, that's what we thought... Just got to wait on the insurance now to find out who they think is a fault.0

Didn't think they would make a report, there was no injuries. The other car collided on a angle into our car,our car didn't move much just a little jolt so must have absorbed the impact but her car bounced backwards a little( she has a pug 106, ours is a vectra, so difference in weight) pictures show both cars as they were when both my DH and the other driver got out of them and the damage plus the lane where it happened and the parked cars on the other side of the road. It was dark at the time of the crash and we've not returned to where it happened to see if there are any skid marks, we didn't think of that, guess its too late now?0

I wouldn't worry about the skid marks. You can't prove who left them now.
If the obstruction was on the other side of the road only. Leave it at that and keep it simple.0 -
DH just back from police station, they have written a report so insurance need to get it and will hopefully say what they saw and what the witness saw, thanks for all your replies0

Have they completed a collision report or written it off on the log? What did they actually say to your oh today and on the day of the collision?0 -

They have just given him an incident number and a name of the policeman that dealt with it.
They didn't really say much to him they told him what to take pictures of and to take note of the cars parked on the other side of the road.0 -

Cars don't bounce back unless it's a very minor head on bumper knock. They might roll back post impact, but the momentum that takes them into the collision will follow through, unless the other vehicle's momentum forces them back.
If it went backwards post impact, that would suggest the momentum of your vehicle was greater than theirs, and I understood that yours was stationary (perhaps I'm wrong).
Post up a picture or two if you can.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
I wasn't there when the accident happened, ours was stopped on the side of the lane to let her past she hit the bumper and wing( and front wheel) of the driver side of the car... She applied the brakes hit our car, our car jolted sideways just a touch and hers was no longer touching ours when my DH got out of the car, there was a small fraction of distance between both cars... I suppose I used the wrong word to describe the movement her car must have made ( I am just guessing as I was not there.)
I hope this helps you to understand where she hit our car. It was essentially bumper impact.0
