Postal Orders...

Yesterday a buyer in (Limerick) the Republic of Ireland purchased goods on Ebay and wishes to pay by Postal Order. They asked me to work out the total price in Sterling and give them my name and address.

The buyer has only just joined with Ebay so has (0) to their name, my concern is that the Republic of Ireland use the Euro, so how could they get a Postal Order in Sterling from their Post Office to send to me?

regards
Bob

  • Probably ask a friend who is going to Northern Ireland or England to pick one up for them.

Feedback is irrelevant in this situation.

Depending on where they are in the Republic, then they could do as WBW suggests. I would double check though, in the nicest possible way, that they can get hold of a sterling money order.

  • I've had a few buyers from Ireland pay by Irish PO in sterling and Lloyds accepted without charge.

Good point. They may however have family in the North and be intending to visit, or any such other permutation, including business trips to the UK. It's also possible that they could be going to Rosslare and on to Wales, which is substantially nearer.
