Toby Carvery - meat free/vegetarian carvery

6 Posts
Toby Carvery now offer a meat-free car very option for only £4.65!
This includes a giant yorkie, stuffing and then as much veg as you can fit on your plate! (lots of choices too!) To top it off, there's even a big jug of vegetarian gravy! Yum!
Being a vegetarian, I am always disappointed to be served "vegetarian lasagne" or "goats cheese tart" espevially at Christmas functions, when friends/colleagues are tucking in to a hearty festive meal with all the trimmings!
There are other vegi options on the menu I noticed, but this is a great price and I wish that more carvery restaurants offered similar deals.

Are the roasties cooked in different fat to the meat?
I often have veggie roasties - we know of a few in and around our patch that do them properly; and Wetherspoons do actually do a not half bad veggie roast.
So it might be worth ringing or asking when you book, I reckon the chefs might welcome the chance to do something different too.
But I agree, for a standard walk-in carvery to have this option is brilliant! I'd choose it even though I'm not vegetarian, it's just that I can't be sure of the provenance of the meat so would rather do without. Meat isn't such a big deal really.
Good idea since the meat is always crap!
They've been doing this for at least 25 years!!! Until recently it was £3.99 too.
Only downside is that you can pile up your plate as much as you like but end up with zero protein (not good). And you can't use the free icecream vouchers with a veg-only carvery.
Agreed, I always have the "veg only" option however they have always allowed me to have the free ice cream.
The one i go in now also lets me fills up a small dish for my toddler grandson and they don't charge for that then we share the ice cream.
The same at Crown Carveries and it's even cheaper.:)
PS
I have never worried about protein substitutes, i get enough from veg and potatoes and there is cauli cheese on the carvery which I was assured is veggie but the broccoli probably has more protein plus the Yorkshire pud will be fairly high in it too.
I'm a high protein, low carb kind of girl, so it doesn't sit brilliantly for me. That said, in early pregnancy when the thought of protein made me want to hurl, I had between 3 and 5 veg only carveries a week!!!
