currys and there can't be bovvered delivery drivers

We brought an american style fridge-freezer from currys and the deliver drivers just refused to take the old one away.
They said it was 'too big' and the best they could do was leave it outside in front of the house.
They then 'rang' a currys manager who apparently told them if that wasn't good enough we could go and get a refund, yet when we get to the store the manager says no ones rung them all day.
They take 40 minutes faffing about despite us calling ahead and having them bring up all our details on there screen in readiness and them taking my mums mobile number.
So we're stuck with a broken american fridge freezer till next week while we sort out a fridge with a real company [RDO].
What's the best customer services can do? Repeat parrot fashion that in the terms and conditions the drivers can judge whether a move is to 'dangerous'.
So any lazy sod can just say nope that looks like a hazard to me, off you go for a refund.
So Curry's are £1100 out of pocket because there delivery men just couldn't be bothered. Eventually they'll go the way of comet, they truly couldn't give two hoots for their customers.
We paid up front and waited 3 weeks in good faith for this out of stock item, put up with the broken fridge freezer for a bunch of rude, surly lazy twits to refuse to complete the delivery.
This fridge freezer was replacing one we had imported from America which was HUGE and RDO delivered it just fine!

Can I recommend Appliances online? They do next day delivery, they'll prove match, all the staff I've dealt with were lovely, couldn't fault them. They recycle for £9.99 too. Lovely delivery drivers (carried my machine up a flight of stairs despite not being obliged to) and they're extremely competitively priced!
Honestly, just check their reviews.
I ended up going there after having a poor experience with Argos. (paid for installation and recycling, they refused to do either, despite me having called in advance to make sure that the stairs outside my house wouldn't be an issue)
Hope you have a fridge freezer sorted soon!0 -
I would agree with MamaMoo, had great service and they too carried my fridge freezer and washing machine up a tight flight of stairs no problem and delivered on a Sunday0

I bought a fridge from John Lewis and was very impressed with the delivery.
We paid for the cheapest delivery (or the free one - I can't remember which) where you can't specify the time of day at the outset. Then 24 hours before the day of delivery they phoned me to give me a 2 hour window (presumably by then they had the route planned for that delivery van).
Then about 20 minutes before it arrived, the van people phoned me to say that they would be there in 20 minutes.
I appreciated these little touches as it shows care and consideration.
The delivery men were very friendly and gave me a few tips on using the fridge.
Would use John Lewis again.0 -
Can I ask how big it was? was it a weird shape (was it smaller than the new one supplied)
As i do not know what your house, front drive is like. I am curious to see why they could say its not dangerous to move to the front of your house, but into the lorry.
If it was so dangerous to put in the lorry, how did they get the first freezer out and into your house?0 -
You should'nt expect an old item to be taken away unless it has been agreed beforehand.
I recently bought a new washing machine. I paid extra to have the old one taken away. I would'nt have expected the delivery man to take it away for free. You get what you pay for0 -

The OP is clear that Currys were willing to take the old one away, but decided it was too big. So removal had clearly been arranged.0
