LCD screen distorting picture

I have an old Samsung 15" LCD panel computer monitor that was working fine. Now even if I switch it on without a PC connected, the screen distorts with white patches moving over the screen
Sometimes the screen is ok for a few minutes (enough time to boot up PC and then the screen goes funny)
Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
