'widdle breaks' and rain.

All but one of my dogs are on strike. The puppy and the grey hound are both having to be lifted out into the rain (this is not the easiest weather to housetrain in...I wouldn't wn't to go out side and pee in it either). The greyhound has a splint on one leg, so keeping it dry when it's pelting down continuously is also difficult.

The third one does go out......often for no reason at all, and then tramps in seemingly huge amounts of water and mud.

The only slight relief is only that one is 'walking' ATM, and she is content with a ten minute play who
E I do the others (if I took her for an actual walk by herself she would be horrified).

Anyone else feeling doggy frustration?

  • I've got a similar issue with my three cats. They simply refuse to go outside and I'm having to forcibly eject them. I'm seriously considering litter trays again, but hate them so much!

ETA the litter trays, not the cats :D

We use litter trays for the cats, who usually come inside from outside to go. :D. They aren't a problem. I would rather have trays and be alert to any changes in my cat's gastro intestinal health tbh.

This morning they have all gone out with dh with no complaint as we have a pause in the rain, thank good ness!

Especially exciting is that it was the puppy's first night down stairs (instead of with me) and he was clean too!
  • I even have 3 sheep, 2 pigs and 2 ponies on strike for going out. Dont blame them. The sheep look out of their barn across to sheep in neighbouring fields with a very bemused look on their face.

ps pigs and sheep are the non edible variety :)

Our neighbours sheep have free access to a barn which they are still avoiding. Our horses are still choosing to go out (they also have free access to barns) but it's extremely boggy out there. I think I am going to have to take them off the grass for a while starting this afternoon. It's something I try to avoid, and our winter grazing is not too bad, infact, the most free draining land on clay I have ever managed.

The hens are mainly choosing to stay indoors though.

Yes, Me. You don't know how lucky you are, I'd give my right arm for a dog that didn't want to go out in the rain & just nipped out, did it's biz & came straight back in.

Sadly my 2 don't care about the weather.... monsoon, typhoon, snow, wind, freezing rain, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, alien invasions..... makes no difference! When it's walk time they let us know & don't stop 'till they've been out.

It's not fun @ 6.45 in the morning with the rain lashing down & there are 2 ginger faces looking expectantly, takes some of the joy out of owning dogs... for a while ;)

If they just nipped put and did a widdle and nipped back in it would be fine!

The problem is the 'nipping out' part at the beginning. I am having to physically lift out a greyhound who weighs about 40k and the puppy, who put more energy into crying and whining to go back in than peeing. If they would go out and go we would all be happy, but they greyhound is trying to cross her legs all day every day, and the puppy has no such delicacy, and will seek a way in side to widdle in the nice dry!

    Actually laughing at this :D

A tale of two extremes but after last nights fiasco when I came home wetter than a fish, with 2 dogs that didn't need just towelling down, more "squeezing out" like a sponge, I'm tempted to want your problems :)....

    Hmmm.

My greyhound, and goodness knows where she keeps it because there doesn't seem to be room, has a bladder that when released could require sandbags! I have known her hang on for well over fourteen hours overnight and refusing to go out the next day, and then when she has to go she just cannot hold it a second longer. When I lift her out she stands sulking and shaking by the back door refusing to go.

The puppy ofcourse, is very easy to clean up after, I just don't like setting patterns for life in this kind of weather. Especially as he has been rather clean upuntil now!

I have to go out in the rain anyway, to do the other animals, so......i feel they could have the decency to join me then, those silly dogs.:D

I bet they give you a knowing look... what's she doing, doesn't she know it's raining? Silly humans! :)
