Certificate of Mortgage Loan Interest...excess charge?

Am I alone in thinking that the Halifax are taking the 'mickey' (Self edited in case younger viewers are reading) when they charge me £20 for a 13 line letter to tell me how much interest I have paid and how much I will pay next year????
If someone sat down and wrote me a personal letter, put a stamp on it and carried it to the post box, I might not be so cross, but an automatically generated letter does not cost £20, surely?

No, it is not an excess charge, it is an administration fee.
I think people are taking this whole 'excess charges' thing a bit too far now ...Gone ... or have I?0 -
I have a mortage with the Halifax, and the annual statement includes the interest applied to the mortgage in the previous year. There is no figure given for estimated interest for the coming year, but it's not difficult to work out for yourself a ball-park figure"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

You don;t have to have this certificate
un-request it if you don't need it0 -
Halifax has the right to set a price for the service, if you feel its not worth it then don't use it0

Unfortunately the Halifax call themselves a "bank" but are not that either!
Even with a Halifax account I cannot go into my local Halifax and pay my BT bill over the counter - it doesn't have that facility, therefore it is not a bank.
It is only a bank when it suits it to be a bank, ie, when they are selling mortgages.0 -

They also only allow you to draw out £1200 a day over the counter any more and you have to give 48 hours notice they really are only pretending to be a bank.I recently wanted to withdraw the £3000 that I had saved over the last twelve month's in their regular saver so that I could get it into my RBS account for transfer to the 6 month ING ISA-what a performance 48 hrs notice and it took me nearly half an hour in the branch ,because they insisted on counting the money in front of me in a separate room and they did not have one available. To be happy you need to make someone happy.0 -

They are not a clearing bank - you are right
they do have limits on things
but they are a plc, so can't be called a building society0
