.Ald! tuna is mush in a tin though, the Young Master in this house has given it the thumbs down, and asked me not to buy it again.

As you point out it's not possible for most of us to shop in several different places most of the time. I've only got the choice of two most of the time....but at least her's quite mainstream, and if you could throw in a few yellow stickers, and some store cupboard bargains on top of those suggestions, the budget would come right down!

I buy Aldi tuna - and it definately isnt 'mush'! unless you are buying Tuna 'flakes'? Even my nitpicking OH likes Aldi Tuna as it is so 'meaty'!

Probably the best budget menu I've seen in a paper, from a supermarket etc though some of her prices are almost suspiciously low. 4 litres of milk for £1? Hmmm...

I'm glad she's got loads of veg in though. Perfectly tasty looking and healthy menu for the average person but I guess you'd need to budget an extra loaf of value bread and jam for hungry people.

I like the variety but it wouldn't fill the boots of my four strapping lads:(
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I think that was meant to read 4 pints, not litres

I buy tuna from Lidl and it is about 55p a tin, I have tried the Aldi one as well and they were both fine not mushy.

To be honest anyway if I am using tuna it is usually mixed up with mayo for a sandwich or a baked potato or used in fishcakes so ends up mush anyway.

I think if you drain it really well it is fine. .

  • It is ok but wasn't too impressed with the £1.19 chicken- what kind of welfare standards has that been raised to?! Would rather buy a higher welfare one and stretch it more/ shred the meat.

Also I'd be a bit concerned about the protein levels on the Thursday/Saturday meals- Thursday seems to have virtually none and Saturday is only 2 cans of tuna divided by 4 people.
  • I think she has at least given a blueprint to people who need help on how to budget and still eat reasonably well.

Her plan can be adapted and tweaked a bit to suit the individual family needs more, but at least she's given people a good start and something to work with.

    Well done Prue!

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

she had to go round all the different supermarkets to buy the stuff which is time consuming and not money saving. The food did not look filling either.
