Ripping with Handbrake

I use Handbrake to rip DVDs onto my ipod Touch to watch on flights.
The first seven series of Spooks ripped fine, but series eight Im having issues with. The files are four times the size, and they have all coloured squares and jerky all over the place.
Same version of handbrake. Same handbrake settings AFAIK.
Anyone any ideas?
