I *like* work!I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

That's the story of my career.
Of course, as I have *never* had a job interview, maybe it's not a career? My mother has finally stopped asking when I'm going to get a proper job, but what does she know ...I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I have also never had an interview, been in a job since 12 years old so 9 and a half years. Currently on 4th job, been here 5 and a half years. I also like work, I find it very satisfying and the pay is a bonus, a decent pay is a double bonus!!!
Anyway got keys Friday passed now have a £100k mortgage to pay off!! No Internet set up yet so just browsing forums on iPhone it's a bit harder to navigate on phone than laptop. i also like work (not what i do but the activity of working to a better tomorrow) and my father liked work (what he did as a job), but as a daughter i appreciated the fact that he made a success of himself and then sold his business retired at 36 when he decided to start a family and so i spent my whole childhood being with him at home. he died when i was 11. i cherish every moment we had. i get that my story is unusual and i am glad i have done over time and not got paid for it because I have been so far successful in my chosen profession. but there is a balance for everyone, different levels and this will change but there is a balance there somewhere.YoungBusinessman wrote: »Anyway got keys Friday passed now have a £100k mortgage to pay off!! Very interesting thread. Youngbusinessman, you seem to have the head of a wealth-builder, I expect you'll do very well.
The first £50k came quite quickly and easily to me to be honest. My advice, the most important thing: choose the right wife. The next most important things: choose the right parents, year and country of birth!
Once you have got those things right, play a good offence: always seek to maximise your income for every hour worked. And remember your defence: price is what you pay, value is what you get. How much value is there in a sunset on a beach at the end of a summer day spent with good friends? And what does it cost?
If both you and your partner do these things year after year, my guess you will more than likely do OK.0 -
It does feel amazing having the keys, a lot of people take this sort of thing for granted. We have first mortgage payment in January and I think we are overpaying feb and march to make a start on road to being financially free. I don't want to say mortgage free as once we are down to 50% LTV or so, we will have better use for the money than to pay off mortgage completely-assuming mortgage rates stay quite low. We have a 5 year fix I would like to think we could manage at least £30k over that time.
For now we will just worry about furnishings. Then it's a frugal 2013 with lots of overtime again, same as this year. Between us we can sometimes take home £5k a month, it's just about using it wisely. Our mortgage is "only" £650 a month but I still think that's quite dear!
A rough budget showed expenses of no more than £1200 for average month for both of us including car, van bike all insurance fuel etc. So a few months in 2013 we could have a £3800 surplus. I do agree il be here more than I am letting on...this forums are good:eek:Living frugally at 24
