Phantom Car Accident - More Than

Hi All,
Yesterday I received a letter from my car insurance company (More Than) informing me that a third party has made a claim against them for an accident involving my car three weeks ago. I haven't had an accident so either this is a mistake or potentially the start of some sort of fraud. I called my insurers yesterday evening to tell them I'd had no accident and that there is a mistaken registration number or it is a false accusation. They told me I need to speak to the liabilities department who only work Mon-Fri 9:00 to 5:00. So I'll call them again on Monday. I was interested to know if anyone else has experienced a similar thing and what the outcome was. My mind's racing a bit with all sorts of thoughts about how I go about proving I never had an accident. My car's not damaged and the letter doesn't give a lot of details about the alleged accident other than the other parties name, the date of the (none) incident and the claim that I pulled out onto a roundabout hitting the other parties vehicle.
Thanks in advance

Seen them quite a few times when I worked in insurance. Usually they come to light when the third party confirms the make, model, colour of the defendant's (yours) vehicle. Its usually down to a mistranscribed digit. I wouldn't worry over it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. It's probably mistaken identity.
Your car wasn't advertised for sale anywhere at the time, was it?
My husband had contact from his insurers about an accident he'd allegedly had in a nearby city (while his car was on Autotrader), when he pulled out from a side road and his four passengers(!) were all injured. In that case, I did some digging, and it wasn't mistaken identity, but an attempt at a fraud. The claims were repudiated immediately, and nothing more was heard.0 -
Happens quite frequently due to human error as well as dodginess. When you call them on Monday they'll tell you the details of the alleged incident, at which point you say "eh? I've not been to Lincolnshire for five years". Also the third party will describe the car that hit them as an ancient red VW not your newish blue Mondeo. If someone is trying it on then their inability to describe the driver accurately despite somehow getting his insurance details off him invariably sinks the claim.
Don't lose sleep about it.0
