you only have a 30 or 60 day trial with avg AS, and after that the resident shield will become inactive

my free trial of AVG AS expired ages ago, and my machine has been fine without it.

you will not be able to use the shield unless you pay for the program. you will have to check for updates manually

i've never paid a penny for my AVG, and my Resident Shield is "Loaded and Fully Functional".

Have you downloaded the new version 7.5?
I dont believe any older versions will now work.
    I know nothing - really!!

i think you mean AVG antivirus, not avg anti-spyware. the anti-spyware has a free 30 or 60 day trial, and then the resident shield will not function
