What's the weight of bubblewrap

Could anybody please tell me the rough weight of the 'large' bubbled bubblewrap

I have ordered some, to wrap up some delicate items and want to work out postal rates before I list them, UK and overseas

if anybody has a new roll, whatever size, jump on a set of scales with the roll, weigh the total ... throw the roll away and weigh again. Result will be weight.

Just tell me the length and width and weight and i can work out what I need.

Many thanks

ps have a cuppa afterwards !!

    Thank you

I actually found a site with bubblewrap and using their weights it worked out at 30g per metre (500mm wide)

They should fill the bubbles with helium
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

But then it does depends on the supplier and the grade of the wrap
when it comes to weight per area,

I've just done this. With the roll in my hands, the total weight was ninety kilograms - I threw away the roll, and the result was still ninety kilograms. I conclude therefore that bubble wrap weighs ninety kilograms.

And that's SCIENCE. It's a lot more than I was expecting.

Nice idea but they most definitely shouldn't. :D

    More science.

Helium atoms are smaller than the atoms of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide that make up air. Because they are so small they will easily pass through the wall of each bubble in bubble wrap, quickly rendering the bubble warp useless.

Helium escapes from a foil lined balloon in a week or less so it would probably escape from bubble wrap in a few hours or a day or two at most.

The world also faces a potential shortage of helium within a decade or two so you should scrap that business plan to make helium bubble wrap.
  • Pretty sure the extra cost would outweigh any benefit anyway.

  • There is only one price band for Small Packets between 1-750g so it might not make a difference to the postage cost.

Weight of bubble wrap = lightweight.

Calculate the postage rates for your items as you have them. If they are borderline, you can quote the higher rate on the listings or absorb the extra cost into the item price - up to you. Bubble wrap should not affect your postage costs.
