hi there , i havent been here for a while!
my husband is going back to work on monday (thank god ) only 24hrs but its better than nothing
what i was wondering was when i inform tax credits of the change i have been told that i would get an extra payment ?! and wondered if this was true and would it make my payments less next yr if so ?

You get a one off payment for the change. Not sure how it works but i was told by them it takes in to account future payments and reduces them slightly. Mine never did though. Had 2 one off payments. One for bank details change and another for starting work.mummyof2boys wrote: »hi there , i havent been here for a while!

How much is it you usually get off them if you don't mind me asking?0 -
You often get an extra payment when youtell them of a change, basically they recalculate up to the date of the change and you are paid anything you're owed, it might result in slightly lower payments for the rest of the year.0

Tax Credits are a strange thing. When i told them of a change in hours to 0 and going back on JSA Before.
They said they will still continue WTC Payments for 4 weeks even though i was on JSA.0 -

WTC is currently based for a couple on a min of 24 hours worked per week with an income of less than approx £17.5K at which point it disappears and only CTC is payable. There is usually a run on period of 4 weeks if you had been getting it and then it ceases - so if for instance he began work last monday and you told them that date as the change - he would if income was low enough get 4 weeks from last monday run on WTC at old rate and then if income still low enough, the WTC would be adjusted either down or up for later payments, often it is down.
CTC is dependent on how many children you have + basic family element upto a threshold of approx £32.2k for 2 or more children. (1 child is approx £26k).0 -

How could he get a run-on of WTC for 4 weeks and then continue getting it? The run-on is when someone has a reduction in hours below the level they need to qualify for WTC i.e. when WTC ends, you get a 4 week run-on. I don't quite understand what you are suggesting in this scenario?

Whilst we are on the topic. Someone asked me something a couple of weeks ago and i had no answer. Maybe you know??
Ok so ending Employment and you get a 4week run on of WTC. When you phone TC they say nothing changes until 4 weeks after you made the change. Does that also trigger a further one off payment 4 weeks after? And how are the One-Off's ment to be paid back? Do the reduce the amount paid until end of tax year?0 -

I got mine 3 working days after phoning them. I got as a one off payment a week of CTC and also WTC.
So in 7 days i effectively had 3 payments and it totaled 1K
Monday payment, One off on the Tuesday and Monday usual again.0
