Sainsbury Nectar Points or Cashback card

I don't have any debt and have just been contacted by two credit card companies saying that they will be cancelling the cards because of lack of use.

This leaves me with only my visa debit card. I want a card as a back-up, and as my major spends are shopping at Sainsburys, I thought one of those would be best.

So is Nectar Points or Cashback the way to go for long-term use? I will be paying-off at the end of each month, so the low APR card is not an option.

Not sure what the introductory offer on the nectar card is atm? I have one and use it at sainsbobs and other partners - not a huge % and it's AMEX which is refused in a lot of places.

My favoured card right now is the Amazon mastercard - I got (about a month ago) a £10 voucher for joining and for 90 days 3 reward points per pound - equivalent of 3% paid in £10 Amazon vouchers when earned.

After introductory period reverts to 1 point/% for most shopping and 2 points/% for Amazon purchases. Decent rate for amazon purchases after introductory period - plus mastercard is a lot easier to get accepted than the AMEX.

There are lots of other good cashback cards out there - but usually only great for the first 3 months (I have several sitting in my wallet now, only getting used occasionally to keep them active.)

    Thanks James,

Just checked, both Sains cards are Mastercard. The cashback requires you spend £250 in store and £250 elsewhere after the introductory period, which I'll never do.

So looks like the Nectar card then.

What might be better for Sainsburys and other participating Nectar retailers is using both a Nectar card and something like an Aqua card. So you'll get 1% in Nectar points and 3% in cashback (upto £100/year), which to me is better than 4% in Nectar points (plus you get 3% everywhere else too, instead of 1%).
