Car needs 1st MOT - main dealer or cheaper small independant garage?

What car is it?
Do not use Kwik fit since may cost you dearly
I would suggest get it MOTd at your local council vehicle depot if they have one since they have no incentive to fail you in order to put things right which were never wrong in the first place
For the actual service you need to find a reputable reliable garage / mechanic but again it will depend on what car it is
If its a prestige marque ie Mercedes BMW Audi etc I would find a reliable independent specialist check out some reviews and then use them - there are plenty of advice forums on the internet just google it
Since its the first service you are paying for it may not be economical to skimp on this and go with the cheapest since you want to make sure everything is covered and car continues to be problem free. Going with the cheapest can sometimes be a false economy
Good luck and keep us posted0 -
get the mot and service done at the dealers and haggle on price. if it needs any work refuse them doing it and get a second oppionion and price for repairs.0

Hi, thanks again for more replies!
I am in the Bristol area.
It's a Nissan Micra, and I did get the first 2 yearly services done at the main dealer where it came from (both times I thought it a bit expensive but felt I should get it done there). As I said earlier it's going to have a free pre-end of warranty check this Weds, so hopefully no chargeable repairs needed.
I have been quoted £250 this morning by a small independant garage which was recommended to me by a friend - they also said that at the 3yr age mark it should have done 37,500 miles not the 21,000 I have done, so some things may not need to be done, which would reduce their price! They said that previous service paperwork would be checked to see exactly what has been done before!
They also told me that the first MOT can also be post-dated to date of registration anniversary which I didn't realise, so that's handy - I don't want to have to worry about getting it done immediately before xmas!
I have also checked on the price of the "free" RAC breakdown cover, and could get it myself for £30 for a year, so will also bear that in mind.
I will keep you posted, and thanks again everyone!0 -

Might seem obvious but get the MOT and service done before the warranty runs out.0
