Hi I've seen in the press recently someone got 'done' for hacking into a strangers broadband line.
I also see that the moral dilemma today is 'would you use a neighbour's broadband'.
What I want to know is can I stop this.
I have a NTL cable broadband connection, with a wireless Netgear modem.
Is it possible to run checks to find out if anyone else is downloading from my wireless connection.???

Have you encrypted your wireless network? If you have, what type of encryption? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Using a network cable plugged into the router & computer. Go to your router's control screen http://192.168.0.1 and select the wireless settings, in addition to encryption, you can restrict access by MAC addresses of attached devices.
To see if any other computers are connected to your network look under "attached devices".0 -

Sorry to sound dumb but how do i find this bit.
On the same control screen in cledor's instructions. All the information for securing your network has been given in this thread."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

There are so many Wireless networks I could connect to with no encryption/security! I wouldn't but none the less other people who can see these may on the other hand. I've just published a new article on my site about the reasons for ensuring your wireless network is secure. see my site in my signature for these articles as they may prove to be useful for you. I would never recommend using an unsecured wireless network!!!
