Sainsbury's refund card

I can't find the answer to this minor irritation I encountered in Sainsbury's today. I returned a pack of Sainsbury's branded cheese (clearly not bought anywhere else) because it was mouldy when opened. Despite the low £3 purchase price, and the fact that I practically live in Sainsbury's, so they know my face, and that I'm not a serial returner, they insisted on giving me my refund on a card because I didn't have a receipt. As the goods were faulty, am I not within my rights to demand a cash refund?

Without a receipt how would they know when you bought the cheese?0

You had no right to a refund. So demanding a cash refund is out of the question. If you always shop in there as you state the refund on a voucher won't be any inconvenience to you. So well done Sainsburys for going above what they were required to do.0

If goods are faulty, then you need proof of purchase otherwise you are entitled to zip. As you didn't have POP, then a credit note is a hell of a lot more than they must do (ie nothing), and if as you say you are a regular there then I really don't see the problem here apart from deliberately trying to be awkward. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

You would be entitled to a refund if you had proof of purchase.... Not sure it's worth crying over though if you are in there that often...

The OP doesn't. They "practically live there"One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

You could've stolen it for all they knew.
(or picked it out of a skip... thrown in the skip because it had mould on it).
I think you are amazingly lucky to have been refunded anything.
Anyway, if there is one thing that can be eaten with a bit of mould on it... it's cheese.0 -
Stolen it, picked out of a skip, old cheese put in new wrapper, bought at another store etc...One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

Erm, how does that prove when you bought it? :rotfl:0
