Head gasket sealers

I'm adamantly sure it's a water way to combustion chamber leak. Absolutely no signs of external leaking, and the oil is clean.
Head was not skimmed or pressure tested when myself and my brother did it last year (despite my insistence that it should have been). This is very likely the reason why it still has a problem.
I'm going to suggest the aptly named K-seal since other people's experiences don't seem too negative. I just wanted to see if these additives had caused anyone a disaster for whatever reason.
Thanks for all feedback.0 -
I've used radweld for a radiator leak, but for fixing a head gasket? I'd say your pushing your luck.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I'm not proposing to use radweld, a product designed for fixing radiator leaks; I'm proposing to use a product specified to fix head gasket issues. It seems there is some evidence of successful experiences which I'm taking on board whilst deciding what to do.
If it were my car (unlikely, since having a K-series engine would prevent that from occurring), the engine would be in bits for a complete assessment of what needs doing tomorrow.0 -
Was it an el'cheapo Head gasket?
Decent Kits are Multi Layered with the steel Dowels etc..... Done 4 Freelanders in last 2 Years and not had any problems or comebacks but head Skimmed each time.. I'd avoid K'Seal personally unless on a Elcheap workhorse destined for Scrap.... I know it seals gaps holes etc but it cant do the Rad or Matrix any good.
Do it Right Do it once.... Simples.0 -
head gasket was not repaired properly the first time.Does anyone have any experience of using head gasket sealing coolant additives?
What are the drawbacks?
(Actual experiences please, not pub discussion)
Vehicle in question is a 1999 Freelander with a 1.8 k-series (sigh...) engine.
Head gasket was already done a year ago but it still needs coolant reservoir topping up fully on a weekly basis. It's my mothers car. She can't afford to get the head gasket done (I'd argue it's not worth it anyway) and I live too far away to get enough time to go up there and repair it.
if it is passing the mot and coolnt is not leaking from rads or pipes then just keep topping up, these quick fixes can cause more problems then it can fix0
