Magnet and tv Screen oops

Options
I've come into the living room and caught my 2 year old playing with a magnet on our tv. Gutted is an understatement.

The screen has gone all funny colours now. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Don't really want to have to buy a new one and would rather not claim on the insurance if I can fix it myself.

Any help really appreciated.

Thanks

We had a magnet indident with a TV. It had a purple patch in one corner of the screen. After a couple of magnet free days it went back to normal.
Yours does sound considerably worse, so perhaps you can only hope.
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

Try switching it off (not just standby) completely for maybe ten minutes then on again. May need to repeat a couple of times. Most CRT tvs have an inbuilt degausser that activates at power on.

This may sound daft but on Ships this happens frequently as the ship moves around the globe.

Most CRT PC Monitors have Degaussing functions to remove it but for TV Screens we used to have a Magic Wand to degauss.

A bit crude but if you place the magnet in the centre of the screen, move the magnet away from the screen whilst making a spiral shape as you move away.

Do this with the TV switched on.

Its the same principle as the magic wand we use. You should be able to remove the colour distortion.

I take it the magnet was from a simple loudspeaker, if so, it will be fine.

The magnet was quite a strong one. It's used on our kitchen cupboard locks.

Will try the turning on and off a few times first and then if no joy, I'll try the 'magic wand' trick.

Means I may get more housework done as the different colours on the tv is giving me a head ache.

Thanks for all the help, I'll let you know how I get on.

Thank you thank you thank you.

I can't thank you all enough.

I turned the tv off completly and left it for just over 10 mins and it works fine. Am so glad I didn't ring the insurance straight away. I knew MSE would be able to help.

    Thanks again
