Pre payment woes

Hi I hope someone can explain to me how the pre payment system is supposed to work. I have a pre payment gas meter installed, we are with NPower!! I have just received a statement which shows that I owe them over £100 for usage for the past 66 days. I was under the assumption that having a prepayment meter meant that I would be paying as I used!! This does not seem to be the se s it appears to me that I've effectively been charged twice.
NPower are recovering my initial debt of £969 @£5 per week.
I have loaded the meter with £105 in the past month and a half.
On my statement it shows that my debt a gone down to £864 but have had charges for usage and standing charge of £101.
It takes the bill to £965....which means I have paid of £5 for the debt!!!!

How can this be right????

The first odd point is that you say the debt has gone down from £969 to £864 in 6 weeks at £5pw, thats near £21pw.

The key thing is does the statement show the total of all the vends you have made because sometimes there are issues with the data getting from the shop through several other parties to your suppler.

Think of a prepayment meter more as simply a way of paying your account, rather than a vending machine :)

Note that all the credits may not be reflected on your statement yet, and that the applied charges may not be correct/up to date (it may be based on an estimated meter reading, or if it's an actual it won't be from today).
  • The statement is accurate in that it shows all of the top ups I ave made. Toat of £105.
It is a estimated reading, however in their guide for the meter it says that they will take a updated reading every time I top up and instert the key!!

    Hi Monkeyboy1074,

This does seem a little confusing!

If you'd like, I can get someone to give you a call and talk through this statement with you? Just send me your details to forumresponse@npower.com, and I can get this arranged for you.

    Many thanks,

    Adam

    Very confusing indeed, Adam!

Have you noticed post#1 was made by an apparent brand new user account, yet post #4 was made by a poster with an account almost 4 years old (but never previously used for posting) ...

I wonder how many other user id's they have here?
