in Credit cards
Hi
Back when i was a student, i very stupidly went waaaaayy overdrawn and didnt pay my debt off for a few years. Once i had finally got myself into a stable place, i sorted out monthly payments and eventually reached a point when the bank said i could just pay off a fraction of what i owed and they would be happy with that.
Its been four years now and i havent missed any bill payments what-so ever, but ofc, the fact that i did owe them money will stay on my record for years and years. I want to try and fix my credit rating, which is currently terrible, but im not sure how. Ive applied for both the vanquis card and the other recommended 'bad credit' card and been rejected...also been rejected for a Halifax current account...and i just dont know how to improve my rating if i cant get credit anywhere? Can any one suggest anything? Ive seen the CashPlus card advitised - will this really make much of a difference? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheryl

Have you tried Captial One?
They accept anyone (no offence)0 -
You need to get your statutory reports from Callcredit/Experian/Equifax. Check for errors, even tiny mispellings. Check you are on the electoral roll for your current property and were correctly registered on previous properties. Check all the accounts that you think are settled, are actually showing as settled. If there are any errors with those dispute them with the lender. There is a sticky on how to do this somewhere on the Forum.
Most importantly - hold off from making multiple applications for credit, it makes you look 'desperate' for the money. After you have sorted your credit records out wait a few months then apply for credit. There is no one-size-fits-all solution though.
Sim-only deals, magazine/mail-order catalogues/store cards are all good sources of establishing credit, provided you make the payments. I know some people have taken out payday loans but I wouldn't touch them personally. Hope that helps.0 -

Well, a quick Google search would've brough up that info, but here it is -: Each credit reference agency will charge you £2 for a paper copy of your report sent to your home address. Each agency charges different amounts for an online account.
Start off with the paper copy from each of the three agencies, and check them. Experian, Equifax, and Call Credit.0 -

Doesn't hurt to use both?0 -

Sorry, we haven’t been able to verify and validate your identity and can’t provide your credit report.
We’re sorry but unfortunately we’re not able to provide you with access to your credit report as we’ve not been able to automatically verify and validate your identity. As your credit report contains such personal and important financial information we need to make sure that we only make it available to the right person.
We're unable to tell you the exact reason that we couldn’t verify your identity but some of the most common reasons are a recent house move or name change, not being on the Electoral Roll or that the credit card details provided couldn’t be verified.
We regularly make updates to our processes and we hope that this will allow more people to be automatically matched so please do come back and try again.

My name hasn't changed, I've lived at the same address for over 20 years, I confirmed the family's electoral roll details well before the end of October, and gave correct bank card details!0 -
I agree re. noddle. I apply for and hold a lot of credit cards and none of them have ever searched noddle (callcredit) for credit applications. Most use Experian, some Equifax. Callcredit contains the odd insurance and AML checks, nothing else on searches.
BUT! Noddle is free and it has good report presentation and credit agreements are usually up to date so worth getting it too0 -

I got this first time I applied but then tried a different credit card (for verification) and it went through OK0
