Disability Road Fund Licence

Hi. Apologies if this has been asked many times before. My wife's car is registered to her and she has the disability exemption on paying the road tax each year. It would appear that her current car is needing to be changed in the not too distant future. How does she go about transferring the exemption to her new car?

She doesn't transfer it. She cancels the existing one and gets the replacement car taxed (free obviously). Tax disks relate to the cars they are on/for.0

Sorry that was me not usingthe correct words again! Obviously the road tax itself isn't transferrable. When she first applied for the free road tax she had to get some certificate or other to take to the post office. Can she use the same certificate or does she need to apply for a new certificate and wait until this comes through (took about a month last time) before she can tax the new car? She qualifies for the road tax by having higher rate mobility DLA.
How does she cancel the old one? Can she go from one car to the next or will there be some delay whilst all the paperwork is sorted so she will have to pay for road tax in between times?
Not sure this posting is any clearer that my first!

Yes she uses the same certificate.
Not being cheeky here, but same way anyone else cancels for a refund - inform the tax office if there is unused months on the tax disk. She will be informing Swansea of change of ownership (SORN) of the vehicle too I presume?0 -
Or, if buying from a dealer the 'new' car will need to be taxed so let them do it for you.0

- she will have an [old] DLA404 certificate with a registration number
- or a new[er] version, its just an A4 side of paper with a registration number
She [or anyone] takes ALL of BOTH sets of docs to her local DVLA and they will complete the whole thing for her with no waiting or worrying period, done there on the spot. After the first time, subsequent re-taxing [[the V11 reminder] can be done from her armchair on the interwibble.
If she has an old DLA404 that needs renewing or that has all 6 box's full, get a new version from here - takes about a week.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thanks for all the help. Very reassuring.
Yes, Nar, she will be informing Swansea when the time comes.

She can tax the car at any post office (with relevant docs) but if she wants the old car reclassed as plg she needs to either do it via post or at the local dvla centre or she can sell the car as is and let the new owner sort the problem out.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

TBH the new owner of her car is likely to be the local scrap yard!!0
