I dont want to commit fraud

Hi,

Its my first time posting and would love some help or be pointed in the right direction i do not want to be unknowingly commit fraud.

Today after a fight i have been awarded higher rate DLA of both components.

Im a single mum on income support/ child tax credits/ child benefit and get full housing benefit and council tax benefit at the moment.

Do i need to let any of my benefits know im now getting this income from DLA people? and also they are back dating for 19 weeks do i need to let anyone know about the payments which will go into my account as a lump sum?

I get income support as my child is only 3, i dont know if that affects it? (i do get child maintance but the benefits people are aware of this and said it doesnt affect it)

but im just checking as i dont know if i will lose benefits or if i need to tell them i dont want to break the law just because well im a bit stupid.

Hope someone can help and thank you in advance

You do need to notify the other agencies - you may now receive more money than you did previously.
  • You should definitely inform all of the benefits people about your DLA because actually you may now be entitled to premiums on your other benefits and actually get more money :)

No, you are not, because DLA is non-means-testable and non-taxable.

You just need to be careful that the lump sum, due to the backdating of the DLA, doesn't take you over the limit (£15,999) meaning you may lose means tested benefits HB/CTB.
