Have you tried to delete account and re enter it? and the hard reset (Press home and lock buttons together for up to 60 seconds till the phone goes black and the apple logo comes on)?

You could try deleting and re-creating the account (you might lose all emails from that account on your iPhone) but the error suggests a problem with the connection between Apple's and Yahoo's respective mail servers, rather than a problem on your iPhone.
How do I add a signature?

I did think that may be the problem but everything is ok on my iPad. I have 3 email accounts set up on the iPhone but it's only the yahoo one that's giving me trouble.

Hi, just an update, i went to delete the account as suggested above and noticed that for some reason my phone had signed me out so all it took sort out was to insert the password.
