Young drivers, try Hastings!

Hey guys just a quick heads up. I'm a 19yo driver with 1 year no claims, have had my license over 1 year...
Initially (age 17) to insure a £500 1.1 Fiesta, cheapest quote I had was direct line at a staggering £1,300. Their renewal quote for me now was about £780, with most other insurers offering £650 or more..
Went over to Hastings Direct, got third party, fire & theft for £420!

third party fire and theft is crap0

my best quote was 600 with 100 cashback via quidco with prudential. I've got 1 years no claims and am still classed as a young driver so excess is higher (as standard) but it's comprehensive and you get free breakdown cover. Not bad for about £500 although in a few years I'm hoping my quote will decrease quite a bit0

Not on a £500 car it isn't. Fully comp is hardly worth it on a vehicle so cheap.0 -
For what its worth I wont go anywhere near Hastings Direct again. A recent misunderstanding between me and the company and they demonstrated a complete lack of customer care. A definite thumbs down to Hastings Direct!0

Old thread, but I thought I'd add my 2p. Many of us had our policies cancelled, with Hastings citing a 'mistake' on online quotes for young drivers. The policy was immediately cancelled, and the extra months of no-claims (important to someone my age) were lost also.
Now very happily insured with Endsleigh! Will avoid Hastings like the plague.0 -
I had a £200 car and still paid comprehensive insurance to build up my no claims. There is absolutely no point getting 3rd party fire and theft. It is like rent imo, you get nothing out of it and it's dead money.
I spent an extra £400 getting full comp and the following year got £330 off my insurance when the 1 year no claims took effect. If I had 3rd party i doubt it would have shifted so much."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -

forgive me if i am wrong but i thought you still get you NCD with TPF&T as you still have no claims on your insurance. I didn't think it mattered if it was FC or TPF&T0 -
you do but i think that the point was being made that apart from complying with the law there is v little benfit to having a TP policyHead of Personal Injury for a Law Firm In Manchester0

A youngster is probably driving a car that is virtually disposable. In which case, paying fully comp on it is more of a waste than TPF&TI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I have a car worth a few hundred quid.
Fully comp offers me next to nothing because in any accident my car will be written off and I'll be given the value minue the excess - which is next to nothing.
Also if you car is written off you often don't get a courtesy car (as these are provided by garages doing repairs) so there is very little point at all.
Personally I haven't even bothered with fire and theft but that's my personal choice.
I have only have one very small accident in 17 years and my car is almost always parked on private property (my work car park has CCTV, gate code and Rottweiler at night).
I don't even go into fetch my car at night myself without phoning the man in charge of the guard dog.
So, please try and hold back from making judgements about what is best in individual circumstances.
My car is 17 years old (H reg) and has done 134K miles.0
