Npower tariff Wrong

Hi,

Just as companies started to up prices, we got a letter from npower giving us our annual consumption estimates and cost on our current tariff. We live in a 3 bed semi & I have rounded up the figures for ease. Electricity 5700kwh £565, Gas 22000kwh £730

This is on the Sign online 20 tariff. For a years worth of both at £1300 it seemed reasonable bearing in mind none of the comparison websites could find an annual cost of less than £1400ish. I did one, just in case ;)

Today I went online to submit some up to date meter readings and noticed that the tariff was different. We are actually on Sign online 24

We rung npower and they said that the letter with our annual estimates was sent with the incorrect tariff on it and the original Sign online 20 was discontinued before we were even npower customers.

Ok, mistakes happen but now I just did a comparison with those same consumption figures and now post price hikes, the cheapest is coming in at mid to late £1500 p/a. So as a result of npowers mistake I am now going to be £150-200 worse off.

Is it worth arguing with npower to honour what they've sent us in black and white and what my decision to stick with them was based on or just send them a bill for the difference in best price comparison?

Thanks folks

  • If you receive documents from a supplier indicating your tariff name then that is what you should be on. The system would auto-generate a letter based on the tariff change.

I would certainly pursue it, maybe via complaints team, and request as it is their error that your account is re-billed based on the rates quoted in your confirmation letter. If it was a difference of a few pounds then I may leave the issue but £200 is a different matter altogether.
