Hi All, can someone please tell me how to obtain an additional credit card (I know, I know but........) I only have one and it's in my name my hubby isn't down as an additional user either. Can I apply for another one in my name but not sure I would get one (no late payments or anything but went £3 over my overdraft limit) which Barclaycard refunded me the £12 charge. My husband doesn't have a credit card (and never has had).
My promotional rate runs out in February.
Loads and loads and loads of people have numerous credit cards I only want one so I can transfer to another 0% one.
Many Thanks.

You find one that you think is appropriate and apply for it via the lenders website.0

Was that £3 over your card limit? How long ago?
It might be wise to check your credit file before applying to see if anything has been recorded there. It cost £2.00 from CRA's.

Hi Consumerist, Yes £3 over my card limit but I paid £5 to bring me back within my limit and Barclaycard have refunded the £12 charge and no Black mark on my credit 'stuff'.
ZX81 - Even I could work this one out "You find one that you think is appropriate and apply for it via the lenders website".
The reason I asked was because I have had my request to increase my credit limit upped declined and when I even applied for another card I got declined - I presume this is because I have applied and compared cards.
But thank you anyway.

Can my husband apply for one>
a little rude to ZX81 who was trying to help: you hadn't provided what was obviously a vital bit of information.
what do your credit files say
what do you earn
do you have a mortgage
are you financial linked to your huisband
what debts do you have
what do his credit files say
what is his income
what debts does he have
then we may be in a better position to advise0 -
you can view on your credit reference online
experian
equifax
callcredit including Noddle
On noddle it might help you its free of charge and it will vailate your credit or debt card billing address
check your CRA ONCE monthy
Barclaycard will not put a marker on your credit report
to make sure they dont you can send a notice of correction on your credit report0 -
Can your husband apply for one? well yeah - anyone can apply for a creidit card!
Why dont you try being a bit more specific with your questions - then maybe people can advise you better. Someone has tried to answer your original question on how you obtain a credit card - but you didnt seem to like their answer0 -
Further to Clapton's points, have you had a pay-day loan in the last year? Lenders tend to regard pay-day loans as an indication of finances being under pressure.

Hiya, No, I've never a pay day loan. Thanks.

So, to summarise :-
1. Check your credit files - there are 3 major agencies, as described in Clapton's post.
2. If your credit records are clean - no late/missed payments, CCJs, etc. showing - then you can apply for another credit card online. Your income and loans/outgoings will probably figure in the application. If your income is low or your debts are high then these will reduce your chances of success. Without more details from you, we can't even guess your chances of success.
3. Since your husband seems to have no credit history, it is unlikely he would be successful if he applied for a card from a mainstream financial institution. He may succeed in an application with a credit-building/repair card. He may then be able to apply for a mainstream card after about a year of use i.e. regular spending and repayments history.
Hope that helps.
