The cheapest way is to open an online share account with someone like Hargreaves Lansdown, get them to put the share certificates into this account (separate section on form used to open the account) and then sell online and withdraw the money.

Cheaper still is the norwich and peterborough building society share dealing account which is free of charge today and again in 4 weeks time.

OP should consult a former colleague, as former employer may have provided a cheap way to sell. Otherwise go via HL as suggested above.

BTW, if you want to put the money into a Stock and Shares ISA, then HL will do an online "Bed and ISA" without a dealing fee. The shares will then sell in your "Vantage Fund and Share" account and the cash will appear in your "Vantage ISA".

Of course, you could then withdraw the money from the ISA ...

Note that I personally regard using an online platform like this as a cheap/free way of selling shares as somewhat underhand but I guess this is MSE!

Edit: The max you can Bed and ISA is £11,280 minus whatever you might have done in a cash ISA this year. If you've done a S&S ISA, then you can't do it at all.

might not be the cheapest option, but simplest is to lookup the company registrar and see if they have a telephone/online trading service capita/computershare/equiniti etc.
