Posting to the USA

Hi there.
On Tuesday I posted out a cd to the USA. I went online to check where it's upto today and came across a link for a customs label. This might sound ridiculous but I didn't even know this was a requirement?! I've never posted outside the UK before and the lady in the post office never mentioned anything to me so I thought I was good to go.
I was just wondering if anybody could advise me on what will be likely to happen? Will it be returned to me or is there a chance they will deliver it anyway?

It will probably get there but there may be some delay at customs.
I posted something to the Channel Islands a few months back and did not realise I needed the CN22 form but it got there safely.0
