Work not paid me £300 of my £400 wages?!

I am so stuck, and confused.

Do they have an obligation to pay me the correct pay on my pay day?

This is my 2nd job so it's not terrible, but I'm going on holiday next week and was really looking forward to having the money

Do I have ANY rights to demand it from them?! :|

  • Have you asked where you work why they have short paid you?

i think its been a mix up with my hours, I just dropped my shifts (officially) but...I'm thinking perhaps they've marked down that I've dropped those shifts too maybe?

I've not missed a shift though, and managers/colleagues can verify that from my logon etc.

I have text my manager (she's awesome) and is looking into it for me, but I'm just looking at where I stand here in terms of how long they have to pay me?
  • Well its an illegal deduction in your wages. You are meant to have it on pay day as per your contract.

Your payroll team will know why it's wrong.

I just remember before, they had given me too many holidays, so just took out £200 from my wages, without even telling me or anything. I'm just worrid I'll be in the same position again I geuss
  • It will say on your payslip?

Say what? Sorry, I'm not being clear, I mean last time work were quite willing to make me wait a month before getting me any money.

I hope this time they'll sort it out quicker and not just tell me that the difference will be in next months wage x

First of all you need to check your contract and / or staff handbook. It may well give a range of dates during which wages will be paid rather than a hard and fast date.

If they are outside of this and do not have a lawful reason for making a deduction then, technically, they are in breach of contract.

If so, then in theory at least, you can look to them to make good any UNAVOIDABLE losses this causes.

However, before demanding anything you need to see what they say and then take it from there.

Oh dear - the deduction if any will show on your payslip.

You have just said they paid you too much holiday and took £200 before so this may be the same therefore if it is a real deduction it will say on your payslip
